Paula graduated from Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing, and worked as a critical care RN at Stanford University Hospital in Palo Alto. After returning to Spokane to make a permanent home for her growing family, Paula earned a degree in English literature from Whitworth. During that time, she dedicated her life to Jesus Christ. Law school at Gonzaga followed.
She then worked as a consultant to attorneys in medical cases until the Lord called her to full time ministry as the first director of the Crisis Pregnancy Center of Spokane, later known as Life Services. She served in that role for 18½ years and retired in 2009. Since then, she has served on the board of Heartbeat International, and a consultant for Care Net, affiliating organizations for pregnancy resource centers. She currently volunteers at Path of Life, a ministry to those experiencing sexual brokenness. She enjoys reading, traveling, and spending winters in Arizona with Dick, her husband of 50+ years. Merri has lived in the Spokane Valley all her life and has been married almost 38 years. She has four adult children and seven grandchildren.
She accepted the Lord at age 14, but her walk with the Lord was tested immensely in 1996 after having a child with cancer. Serving the Lord Jesus Christ was no longer just something she did on Sunday, but He became the foundation of every moment of her life.
Merri graduated from Eastern Washington University in 1991, started her own business in 1992 and became a certified public accountant in 1994. In 1997, she became the treasurer of what is now the American Childhood Cancer Organization of the Inland Northwest for about 12 years. Since 2013, she has been the treasurer for several political candidates, a church, and other smaller organizations. She is still active in church, her family and the family’s hobby, drag racing.
